The Kayak River Clean-Up Programme provides participants the opportunity to be in direct contact with nature and to learn about the impact of litter on wildlife and the environment. Participants will be introduced to the basics of paddling and visit litter hot-spots while exploring the Kallang Basin.
Participants will discover how litter accumulates in the water and a better idea of the magnitude of resources that go into cleaning the environment. To create awareness for such programmes and encourage more ground-up efforts from the community to do their part for marine environment sustainability.
This programme is the first of a series of community outreach initiatives by the Better World Team to engage Rovers and Leaders. The aim is to provide an insight to the many Non-Profit Organisations (NGOs), Voluntary Welfare Organisations (VWOs) and independent groups that are doing good work for our community and environment. The initiatives hope to be able to allow Rovers and Leaders to experience such programmes to garner interest, and they would bring their own Scouts to participate in future. Ultimately, the target would be for the Rovers and Leaders to be aware of and to explore other opportunities with different organisations and groups.
